Hannibal

YES! I love the character Hannibal, as well as the movie. Sir Anthony Hopkins breathes exquisite life into his portrayal of Dr. Lecter, and it leaves a memorable and fond impression on me. I admire this character and Sir Anthony Hopkins’ acting very much. I’ve been watching the TV series, as well, and although Sir Anthony isn’t in it, Mads Mikkelson brings another perspective. I’m dedicated to the original two movies (Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal), yet willing still to embrace new representations of my favourite character. ❤

First of all, to hell with television. I’m not talking about any damn T.V. series here. I’m talking about the film, almost a decade and a half old at this point, and nearly universally derided as being a failed sequel to what may be the artiest, classiest slasher film ever made – The Silence of the Lambs. Yes, I’m talking about that Hannibal. I’ve written elsewhere about my love for this film. I’m writing again because there is nothing but negativity out there for this gem. Indeed, Hannibal is one of the most beautiful films ever made, albeit also one of the nastiest. You take the good with the bad, I suppose. Salt and sweet.

To get the bad out of the way, the film is not as tight as its predecessor. That cannot be denied. But so what, let’s move on.
